Why we access your Photos library
PhotoBanana requires access to your Apple Photos library for the following reasons:
- Read access — to scan your photos, compute visual similarity using on-device AI (Apple Vision and Core ML), and group duplicates.
- Write access — to delete duplicates you approve and to correct wrong EXIF orientations on photos.
These are the only reasons the app accesses your Photos library. No other system permissions are requested.
On-device only, no cloud services
All processing happens entirely on your device using the Apple Neural Engine. PhotoBanana has no backend server, makes no network requests, and connects to no cloud services of any kind. No photos, thumbnails, or derived data are ever uploaded anywhere. Nothing leaves your device.
What we don't do
- No account is required.
- No analytics, advertising SDKs, or third-party trackers are used.
- No personal data is sold, shared, or disclosed to data brokers or any third party.
- No data leaves your device, ever.
Deletion safety
Photos marked for removal are sent to the system "Recently Deleted" album and remain recoverable for 30 days through Apple Photos.
Revoking access
If you revoke Photos access in system settings, the app can no longer scan your library. You can re-enable access at any time.
